All the world loves a star. The Artbarn Community Theater understands this, and its performing arts program, open to kids in Pre-K to
9th grade, offers students an opportunity to explore their creative sides in a nurturing and supportive environment.
Most of the activity here focuses on the theater production. Performance classes engage students in all aspects of production, including acting, singing, costume, scenery, and technical design.
Classes range from nine to 14 weeks, depending on the program. Most terms are geared around the nine-week, 11 class, two-show format. At the end of each session two performances are staged at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Brookline. There is also the Traveling Troupe which has a 10 week semester, plus four traveling shows, ending at the Coolidge Corner Theatre.
Artbarn also offers Sprouts, for kids in Pre-K to kindergarten, which introduces students to performing arts through improvisation; children recreate their favorite stories and design costumes and props to go along.
